I know that most of you have been in the situation that your kids refuse to stop playing the games or they will be distracted easily. In view of that, it’s really common that most of us think that our kids lack the self-control. However, it’s wrong to judge them as “bad” kids. Although your kids are always impulsive, they may just need you to help give them a lift and teach them how to control themselves. To teach your kid self-control, here are some tips for you.
Your kid might be unaware of his impulsiveness, so it’s inevitable to tell him whenever he loses control. Being aware of his impulses could be more helpful as he is learning to control himself.
When you tell your kid what he does is wrong, you should point it out clearly that what should he do instead. If your kid gets addicted in best baby toys, you should tell him to stop playing and help you with the housework.
To build his self-control need to take your time, and you have to be patient. You might have to repeat your words again and again, but those words will work well eventually.
No more “have to” but “want to”. It’s more likelihood that your kid will backfire as you tell him that he has to do something. Instead of using “have to”, you could ask him gently that you want him to do something such as picking up his boys clothing.
There are games that could help you to build your kid’s self-control such as the freeze game. Let your kid dances and moves while the music is playing, but tell him to stop as the music stops. As long as you keep teaching him, your kid might become better and better every day.
